About the Role

Gemco is currently seeking a motivated and experienced Trades Assistant to join our Gladstone, Queensland team on a casual basis.

 

This role reports to the Wagon Supervisor and works closely with the Workshop team to support daily operations. Previous wagon experience will be highly regarded.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist trade staff with maintenance and repairs to customer associated equipment on site and ‘in-field' operations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the workshop area, depot and other equipment.
  • On-going and active participate in continuous improvements relating to production activities that enhance safety in the workplace.
  • Completion of all required paperwork in a diligent, accurate and timely manner is an essential part of the duties and the incumbent's role.
  • Other duties that may be directed, that will be in accordance with their training and competence and will contribute to the on-going success and future of the Gemco Rail business and customer expectations.

About You

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience: 

  • Previous experience assisting skilled tradespersons in a workshop or similar environment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Current High Risk Work Licence – Forklift (essential).
  • Flexibility to participate in work rosters, including shift work where required.
  • High‑level interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels and contribute positively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to delivering high standards of customer service.
  • Sound understanding of, and ability to comply with, Rail Safety and Occupational Health & Safety legislation and practices.
  • Proven ability to prioritise tasks and adapt to changing workloads.
  • Current Australian drivers licence.

 

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experiences: 

  • Previous wagon experience.
  • Rail industry experience, particularly in rollingstock maintenance.
  • Experience within heavy engineering or similar industrial environments.
  • Background in a stores role or similar.
  • Manufacturing experience.
  • Rigging, dogging and overhead crane qualification.
  • MR or HR drivers licence.
